Notre méthode simple et efficace de bouturage

Our simple and effective cutting method

Do you want to take cuttings from your favorite plants and you don't know where to start? Whether it's to expand your collection or to offer as a gift to your friends or family, we offer you here a very easy method to take cuttings from almost all your plants.

The materials you will need:

  • A healthy mother plant that will be able to survive the cutting. This is not recommended on a very young plant with little rooting.
  • A clean cutting tool, such as your kitchen or garden shears. It is important to clean them well with soap or alcohol to avoid the transmission of diseases especially if you are propagating several plants at the same time.
  • Potting soil for exotic plants. For example, a mixture of sphagnum peat moss and perlite will be ideal and will allow your cuttings to already be rooted in their preferred environment without needing to be transplanted again.
  • Pots or containers: you will need these to plant your cuttings in the soil. If you don't have plastic nursery pots, you can use small, clean yogurt pots with holes in the bottom for water drainage.

Here's how to properly take cuttings from your plants:

  1. Select a healthy stem containing a node and at least one leaf
  2. Cut at two internodes to isolate the stem with the node+leaves.
  3. Plant the cutting directly into the soil with the node facing upwards.
  4. Make sure that the node is not buried too deeply in the soil. It is best if it is close to the surface or slightly out. You can plant several cuttings in the same pot if there is enough space.
  5. Water the potting soil so that it is moist but not soggy.
  6. Place your pot containing your cuttings in a space with high humidity (ideally 100% humidity or a high enough humidity to maximize the chances of rooting). To do this, place your cuttings either in a ziploc bag, a transparent box or an indoor mini-greenhouse.
  7. Place your cuttings in a bright location, but avoid direct sunlight. Use artificial light to maximize regrowth. Try to give your cuttings at least 12 hours of light per day whenever possible.
  8. Keep the potting soil moist at all times and be sure to air the container for a few minutes a day to prevent fungus from growing on top of the soil.

With this method you will have healthy, well-established plants in their pot in 8 to 12 weeks!
