Scientific name
Myrtillocactus geometrizans 'Fukurokuryuzinboku'
General description
This monstrous cultivar of Myrtillocactus geometrizans has wavy ribs with pronounced bulges, giving the appearance of “breasts” on its trunk. Its habit is cactiform, upright, with singular shapes that attract the eye with their originality.
Origin
This variety is a Japanese cultivar of the normal blue cactus Myrtillocactus geometrizans , a species native to Mexico.
Care
- Light : Requires plenty of light; prefers full sun when well established; young plants tolerate some light shade.
- Watering : During the growing season (spring to autumn), water when the substrate is completely dry; in winter, reduce watering significantly or even stop.
- Humidity : Tolerates an arid environment; avoids stagnant moisture to prevent rot.
- Temperature : does not tolerate frost; keep at least around 10°C, ideally warmer.
- Substrate : Highly draining mix for cacti/succulents, with coarse sand, pozzolan or stone, to facilitate water drainage.
Special advice
- Repot in spring if the roots occupy the entire pot or if the substrate is degraded.
- Fertilize moderately during the growing season (e.g. cactus fertilizer).
- Dry wounds (calluses) before replanting after cutting or propagation.
- Protect young plants from intense sun until they are acclimated.
- Toxic if swallowed to humans and animals
