Scientific name
Caladium bicolor 'Allure'
General description
Caladium 'Allure' is a highly decorative caladium, with pale, almost milky white leaves contrasting with deep green veins. The foliage is elegant, bright, with very clean and graceful patterns that catch the eye.
Origin
Cultivar resulting from crosses of tropical caladiums originating from Central and South America, selected for its two-tone patterns.
Care
- Light : Bright to moderate indirect light; avoid direct sun which can burn the foliage.
- Watering : Keep soil evenly moist during the growing season; reduce watering during the dormant period.
- Humidity : high, a humid environment is preferable to preserve the finesse of the veins and the contrast of the colors.
- Temperature : between 15 and 25°C; avoid low temperatures or sudden changes.
- Substrate : mixture rich in organic matter, well-draining, slightly acidic.
Special advice
- Cut off faded leaves as soon as they appear to encourage new, quality shoots.
- Avoid keeping foliage wet overnight to limit the risk of fungal diseases.
- Stop watering after the leaves have naturally fallen at the end of the season; wait for growth to return in spring.
- All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested — keep out of reach of children and pets.
