Scientific name
Coffea spp.
General description
The coffee plant is a glossy evergreen shrub with opposite, oval, green leaves. In favorable conditions, it can bloom with small, fragrant white flowers and then produce red berries (coffee cherries).
Origin
Native to tropical regions of Africa (mainly Ethiopia) and cultivated in many tropical areas for its grains.
Care
- Light : Bright indirect light; moderate lighting is tolerable but limits flowering.
- Watering : Keep the soil evenly moist but not overly moist; allow the top of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.
- Humidity : High preferred; misting or more humid room favorable.
- Temperature : between approximately 15 and 24°C; avoid very low temperatures.
- Substrate : rich, well-draining mix, with a good capacity to retain some moisture without stagnation.
Special advice
- Prune to control height and encourage denser branching.
- Repot when the plant outgrows the pot or the roots are tight.
- Provide good ambient humidity to prevent leaves from drying out.
- Toxic if swallowed by children and animals
