Scientific name
Crassula ovata
General description
Crassula ovata , commonly known as the Jade Plant , is a shrubby succulent popular for its glossy green fleshy foliage and compact shape. With age, it develops a woody trunk that gives it the appearance of a small bonsai tree. In good conditions, it can produce small white or pinkish star-shaped flowers.
Origin
Native to South Africa and Mozambique, where it grows naturally in rocky and arid areas.
Care
- Light : Bright light to full sun; direct light enhances foliage color and stimulates flowering.
- Watering : Water when the substrate is completely dry; very sensitive to excess water.
- Humidity : low; tolerates dry indoor air perfectly.
- Temperature : between 10 and 30°C; protect from frost.
- Substrate : well-draining cactus or succulent mix with coarse sand or perlite.
Special advice
- Use a pot with holes in it to avoid stagnant water.
- Fertilize lightly in spring and summer with a succulent fertilizer.
- Repot every 2 to 3 years in a slightly larger pot.
- Toxic if swallowed to humans and animals.
