Scientific name

Echeveria purpusorum

General description

Echeveria purpusorum is a charming little succulent with dense rosettes of thick, pointed leaves. The foliage is gray-green to olive, often mottled or speckled with rusty brown, especially in bright light. A very slow-growing plant, it remains compact, making it perfect for small pots or succulent arrangements.

Origin

Endemic species to the mountainous regions of Puebla and Oaxaca, Mexico.

Care

  • Light : Bright to strong light, sometimes soft direct; insufficient light results in pale, stretched foliage.
  • Watering : Use the “soak and dry” method: water completely then allow the substrate to dry out between waterings.
  • Humidity : Prefers low to moderate humidity, avoid excessively high humidity which promotes rot.
  • Temperature : Tolerates cooler temperatures than many succulents, but does not tolerate prolonged frost; keep above ~5-10°C depending on conditions.
  • Substrate : very well-draining mix suitable for succulents, containing sand, perlite or mineral elements, light soil to avoid water stagnation.

Special advice

  • Place in a well-ventilated area, especially in warm weather, to limit the risk of fungal diseases.
  • Provide strong light during growth to accentuate red-brown spots, contrasts and pigmentation.
  • Do not repot often; as it grows very slowly, a slightly adjusted pot is sufficient.
  • Non-toxic plant
