General description

Microsorum thailandicum is a spectacular fern with iridescent blue-green fronds that appear slightly metallic depending on the lighting. The glossy foliage and fleshy texture of this plant have an exotic tropical look, often sought after for their unique aesthetic.

Origin

Native to the rainforests of Thailand and surrounding areas in Southeast Asia, often on calcareous soils, on rocks or as an epiphyte in moist, shady environments.

Care

• Light : Bright to moderate indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn or dull the blue color.
• Watering : Keep the substrate constantly moist, never let the roots dry out completely.
• Humidity : Very high, ideally between 60 and 80%. Misting or a humidifier helps a lot.
• Temperature : Gentle heat between 18 and 27°C. Do not expose to very low temperatures (less than ~15°C).
• Substrate : draining and very aerated mixture, rich in organic matter, with epiphytic components (bark, sphagnum) to allow good air exchange around the roots.

Special advice

• Feed lightly during the growing season (spring-summer), avoiding excess; a moderate supply of balanced fertilizer is sufficient.
• Avoid leaving the pot in stagnant water, as this causes rot.
  
• Prevent cold air from entering or sudden temperature changes to protect delicate leaves.
• Toxic or avoid if ingested by animals and humans.
