Scientific name

Hoya gracilis

General description

Hoya gracilis is a delicate climbing/trailing plant with thin, narrow, waxy, slightly flattened leaves. The supple stems grow in compact shoots, and in good light, the foliage may show silvery spots or a slight reddening depending on the exposure.

Origin

Tropical species from Southeast Asia, often cultivated as an epiphytic or semi-epiphytic plant on bark or aerated substrates.

Care

  • Light : bright indirect light; favor windows with abundant light, avoid intense direct sunlight.
  • Watering : Water when part of the substrate is completely dry (especially the first 1-2 centimeters); do not leave the pot in stagnant water.
  • Humidity : medium to high; likes a slightly humid atmosphere, misting possible.
  • Temperature : between approximately 18 and 27°C; avoid prolonged lower temperatures.
  • Substrate : very draining mixture, suitable for hoyas: epiphytic components such as perlite, bark, light substrate.

Special advice

  • Use a pot with good drainage to avoid root rot.
  • Fertilize lightly in spring-summer, approximately every 4-6 weeks with a diluted balanced fertilizer.
  • Place near a bright light source to encourage optimal foliage development and prevent etiolation.
  • Clean the leaves if they accumulate dust to keep the waxy surface visible and beautiful.
  • Non-toxic plant for humans and animals according to known references.
