Scientific name
Muehlenbeckia complexa
General description
Muehlenbeckia complexa is a slender and elegant climbing or trailing plant, with long, threadlike stems covered in small, rounded or slightly cordate leaves. Its dense, light foliage creates a delicate cascading effect, very decorative when hanging or on a support.
Origin
Native to New Zealand, where it grows naturally along rocks, trees or cliff edges in humid and moderate environments.
Care
- Light : Bright indirect light to filtered light; tolerates partial shade but good lighting promotes denser growth.
- Watering : Water when the surface of the substrate is dry; keep the soil slightly moist without overwatering.
- Humidity : Likes moderate to high humidity; too dry air causes dull or shriveled foliage.
- Temperature : approximately 18 to 27°C; avoid cooler temperatures, drafts or thermal shock.
- Substrate : light and rich soil, well-draining, with a good proportion of aerated elements to avoid water stagnation.
Special advice
- Prune regularly to control the length of the stems and avoid an overly untidy shape.
- Use a support or let it hang depending on the desired effect: suspension, basket, or light trellising.
- Fertilize moderately in spring and summer, about once a month with diluted balanced fertilizer.
- Non-toxic plant
