Nematanthus gregarius

General description

Nematanthus gregarius , also known as the Goldfish Plant, is a houseplant with a trailing or spreading habit and small, fleshy, glossy, dark green leaves. It is distinguished by its bright orange tubular flowers, resembling small fish, which add a colorful and playful touch to the plant.

Origin

Native to Brazil, this plant grows naturally in tropical rainforests where it adopts an epiphytic or semi-epiphytic habit.

Care

  • Light : Bright indirect light; the better the light, the more abundant the flowering will be.
  • Watering : Keep the substrate slightly moist; water when the top of the soil begins to dry out; avoid waterlogging.
  • Humidity : Prefers high ambient humidity, although it tolerates moderately dry air.
  • Temperature : between approximately 18 and 27°C; avoid temperatures below 10°C.
  • Substrate : light mix, rich in organic matter and well-draining, suitable for epiphytic plants.

Special advice

  • Prune lightly after flowering to encourage dense growth and maintain a beautiful shape.
  • Fertilize regularly during the growing season with a diluted balanced fertilizer to stimulate flowering and foliage.
  • Remove faded flowers to extend the flowering period.
  • Non-toxic plant, safe for pets.
