Scientific name

Philodendron hederaceum 'Brasil'

General description

Philodendron Brasil is a climbing cultivar popular for its heart-shaped, dark green leaves with broad, lilac-lime yellow stripes, which are highly decorative. It produces supple, trailing or climbing vines, bringing a lively, tropical touch to indoor spaces.

Origin

Native to tropical South America. This cultivar is a mutation of Philodendron hederaceum , suitable for indoor living.

Care

  • Light : Bright indirect light to preserve variegation; medium light is sufficient but reduces light patterns.
  • Watering : Water when the top 2-3 cm of the substrate is dry; avoid stagnant moisture.
  • Humidity : Moderate to high, supported by a slightly humid atmosphere.
  • Temperature : between 16 and 27°C, do not expose to extreme heat or sudden cooling.
  • Substrate : light, draining mix, rich in organic matter, well aerated.

Special advice

  • Prune stems to control length and encourage a fuller growth habit.
  • Fertilize every 2-4 weeks in spring and summer with diluted balanced fertilizer.
  • Repot every 1-2 years or when roots outgrow the pot.
  • Plant toxic if ingested by pets and humans.
