Scientific name
Pilea mollis 'Moon Valley'
General description
Pilea mollis 'Moon Valley' is a houseplant with attractive, textured foliage. Its emerald green leaves have very pronounced, slightly hollow veins, giving a raised, almost “topographical map” effect. The rough, soft feel makes it a perfect decorative addition to shelves or accent pots.
Origin
Native to tropical regions of Central and South America, where it grows in humid, shady undergrowth.
Care
- Light : Bright indirect light; medium light acceptable but reduces vein contrast.
- Watering : Keep the soil slightly moist but not soggy; avoid letting the substrate dry out completely.
- Humidity : Moderate to high; a humid atmosphere promotes foliage vitality and prevents brown edges.
- Temperature : between approximately 18 and 27°C; avoid low temperatures and thermal shocks.
- Substrate : light, organic-rich, well-draining mix with perlite or aerated elements.
Special advice
- Avoid spraying directly on the leaves if they are thick or rough to avoid altering the texture.
- Fertilize every 2-4 weeks during the growing season with diluted balanced fertilizer.
- Repot as soon as the plant becomes dense or the pot is too small to avoid water stagnation.
- Non-toxic to humans and animals.
