Scientific name
Pilea peperomioides
General description
Pilea peperomioides , called “missionary plant” or “pancake plant”, is a popular plant with almost perfect round foliage, carried by thin radiating stems, creating a graphic, light and easily identifiable silhouette.
Origin
Native to the mountain forests of southwest China, growing in humid areas at moderate altitudes.
Care
- Light : Bright to medium indirect light; medium light sufficient but slows growth.
- Watering : Water when the surface of the substrate is dry; avoid soggy soil.
- Humidity : Enjoys medium to high ambient humidity.
- Temperature : between approximately 16-27°C; avoid excessively cold temperatures or sudden drops.
- Substrate : light, well-drained soil, rich in organic matter, with aerated elements such as perlite or fine sand.
Special advice
- Rotate the pot regularly for even growth (the plant tends to orient itself towards the light).
- Repot as soon as the roots begin to appear or the pot seems too small.
- Fertilize moderately during the growing season.
- Non-toxic to animals and humans.
