General description

Pinus pinea , also known as Stone Pine or Umbrella Pine, is a small Mediterranean conifer that is very decorative when grown indoors or on a patio when young. Its soft, bright green needles create a dense, rounded shape. Over time, it can develop an umbrella-shaped form, but in a pot, it remains compact and elegant for many years.

Origin

Originating from the Mediterranean basin, particularly Italy, Spain and southern France.

• Light : full sun to very bright light; appreciates strong light.

• Watering : water when the first few centimeters of the substrate are dry; avoid overwatering.

• Humidity : tolerates dry air; does not require high humidity.

• Temperature : between 10 and 26 °C; tolerates cooler temperatures in winter.

• Substrate : well-draining, sandy mix or potting soil for conifers.

• Ideal plant for bonsai or pot cultivation.

• Take it outside in summer to stimulate growth (full sun).

• Do not over-fertilize: too much can burn the roots.
