Scientific name

Rhaphidophora decursiva

General description

Rhaphidophora decursiva is an impressive tropical climbing plant, prized for its large, glossy, dark green leaves that become deeply lobed as they mature. Its exotic and elegant appearance makes it a superb houseplant with a jungle effect, while remaining easy to care for.

Origin

Native to Southeast Asia, particularly India, China and Thailand, where it grows in tropical rainforests as an epiphyte.

Interview

  • Light : bright indirect light; avoid direct sunlight which burns the leaves.

  • Watering : Water when the top of the substrate is dry; maintain slightly moist soil without excess.

  • Humidity : moderate to high; prefers humid environments.

  • Temperature : between 18 and 27 °C; avoid cold drafts.

  • Substrate : airy, rich and well-draining mix (potting soil, perlite, bark).

Specific advice

  • Provide a stake or support to allow the plant to climb and develop large, lobed leaves.

  • Clean the leaves regularly to promote photosynthesis.

  • Rotate the plant periodically for even growth.

  • Toxic if swallowed by humans and animals.
