Scientific name
Sedum morganianum
General description
Sedum morganianum , or Burro's Tail, is a highly decorative trailing succulent with drooping stems covered in fleshy, blue-green leaves that resemble drops or pearls. It is often used in hanging pots to highlight its cascading habit.
Origin
Native to southern Mexico and Honduras, it grows naturally in dry climates, on rocky or steep terrain, with filtered sunlight.
Care
- Light : Bright indirect light; tolerates some mild sun, especially in the morning; avoid intense direct sun which can burn leaves.
- Watering : water when the substrate is completely dry; “soak and dry” method; in winter, space out waterings considerably.
- Humidity : Low to moderate; normal room air is sufficient, avoid stagnant humidity.
- Temperature : between ~10 and 27°C; protect from frost, do not expose to low temperatures.
- Substrate : Highly draining mix, suitable for succulents; incorporate perlite, coarse sand or mineral material to promote water flow.
Special advice
- Handle with care: Leaves fall easily if the plant is touched or moved; this is normal.
- Use a hanging pot or shallow pot to showcase the dangling stems.
- Do not repot frequently; prefers to remain slightly cramped to retain its shape well.
- Fertilize very lightly during the growing season, in spring/summer.
