General description

Curio citriformis , or String of Tears, is a trailing succulent with slender stems bearing spindle-shaped, teardrop-shaped leaves. The waxy foliage is delicate, often rich in translucent “windows” that let light filter through.

Origin

A succulent plant native to South Africa, growing in rocky clay environments, often exposed to bright light and moderate heat.

Care

• Light : Bright indirect light or intense filtered light. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which burns delicate foliage.
• Watering : Water sparingly and well, allowing the substrate to dry completely between waterings.
• Humidity : Tolerates low to moderate ambient humidity; do not expose to chronic high humidity.
• Temperature : Preferred between approximately 18 and 27°C; avoid frost or very low temperatures.
• Substrate : very draining mix for succulents/cacti, rich in mineral elements (perlite, gravel, coarse sand) to ensure water drainage.

Special advice

• Use a hanging pot or a widened pot to show off its long, drooping stems.
• Fertilize lightly during the growing season with diluted fertilizer to support foliage.
• Control the light: If the leaves become pale or stretched, move to more light.
• Toxic if swallowed to animals and humans.
