General description
Peperomia obtusifolia , also known as "Big-leaved Peperomia," is a compact houseplant with fleshy, glossy, oval to rounded foliage. Its thick leaves retain water, making it tolerant of missed watering. It is a decorative plant, easy to maintain, and perfect for beginners.
Origin
Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, where it often grows in the shade under forest cover.
Care
- Light : Bright indirect light; tolerates medium light but prefers good illumination for optimal growth.
- Watering : Water when the first few centimetres of the substrate are dry; avoid excess water.
- Humidity : Prefers moderate to high humidity, but tolerates dry air.
- Temperature : between 18 and 27°C; do not expose to temperatures below 12-15°C.
- Substrate : Light, rich, well-draining mix, with added perlite or bark for aeration.
Special advice
- Wipe the leaves regularly to preserve their natural shine.
- Fertilize lightly during the growing season every 3 to 4 weeks with a diluted fertilizer.
- Repot every 1 to 2 years if the plant becomes cramped.
